Creating interoperability between the Hierarchical Task Analysis and the Cognitive Work Analysis Tools
Abstract
This document addresses two software support tools currently under development by the HFI DTC; The HTA (Hierarchical Task Analysis) tool and the CWA (Cognitive Work Analysis) tool.
The aim is to establish if a link between these two tools, allowing data to be passed between them, would be appropriate and beneficial.
The document will show that there are fundamental differences between HTA and CWA which need to understood and respected. However the author’s findings and the general consensus of the available literature shows that the two methods when treated correctly can be complimentary. Because of this it is judged that cross communication between the tools would be acceptable and in many cases beneficial.
