Christopher Kelly
Chris is a human factors (HF) specialist at Systems
Engineering & Assessment Ltd (SEA), whom he joined in 2008. Previously he
worked at QinetiQ including its predecessor organisations DERA and DRA, and
prior to that he was at British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) where he started
his career. Chris also spent a few years as a freelance human factors consultant
running his own company (HF Matters Ltd).
Chris has many years of HF experience gained on a wide range of civil and military projects. He has worked on various guided weapon systems, for example Rapier and Thunderbolt (shoulder-launched), and conducted HF studies on future systems such as the Surface Combatant Maritime Rotorcraft (SCMR) helicopter; he also wrote the seminal HF Defence Standard 00-25/Part 12 on Systems. In the civil domain Chris has over 15 years of experience on Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, and has conducted many HF projects for key clients such as the National Air Traffic Services (NATS), EUROCONTROL and Selex-SI. He has experience of running real-time ATM simulations, applying and developing measures of human performance (e.g. Situation Awareness) and producing guidance for the better integration of Human Factors into Safety Management Systems.
Chris has been involved with various collaborative and multi-national projects under the DTI’s Information Engineering Advanced Technology Programme (IEATP) and also the European Commission's Framework Programmes. He has been a member of a number of professional groups such as the IEE Professional Group C5 on HCI (formally MMI) from 1989-92, and the EUROCONTROL Human Performance Focus Group (HPFG) from 2000-05. Chris is a Chartered Psychologist and Registered Member of the Ergonomics Society.
